Magneto, born Max Eisenhardt, is a powerful mutant who can generate and control magnetic fields. He is a Holocaust survivor who believes that mutants are superior to humans and wants to create a world where mutants rule. He has been a villain, an antihero, and a hero, depending on the circumstances. He has been friends with Professor X, the leader of the X-Men, but their different philosophies have often caused conflict. Magneto has been portrayed by Ian McKellen in the X-Men films and by Michael Fassbender in the prequel films.
